Slovene for "vitriol"

Dear Makers of As Ti Tud Not Padu,

I hate your dumb show and wish The Captain wouldn't watch it every week. Those two idiots and their skits are never funny and the weekly crossdressing and "impersonating" gay people is beyond stale.

This week's "yellowface", in which the large-sized idiot played some sort of Chinese/Japanese hybrid was just another example of how truly stupid and insulting that show is not only to women, the gay communities, and the various tiny immigrant groups of this country but also to the intelligence of your own Slovenian people. I really hope that the next time you hit the Chinese restaurant for a bite to eat that someone busts out the kitchen and pops a cap in all of you. ..or at least that you get a heaping dose of laxative in your fried rice. It'd do you well to get rid of some of the s*** you are so full of.

Go straight to hell.

Lep pozdrav,
Camille

BTW, I've got my racist bingo card all ready, so gimme your best defenses. I feel lucky today!

I must say the insulting part of the show would not bother me at all if it would be done "properly", or with some kind of point. Even insulting can be done with style (e.g. many incredible Monty Python shows).

But this show is simply stupid - so thank you Camille for pointing this out, I hope at least your Capt. will come to his senses and will find something better to do on Sunday evenings :)

I agree, even insulting can be done to humorous effect.

The Captain knows better but I think that for him (as it probably is for most of the people who watch it) a guilty pleasure, and considering how poor the offerings are on Slovenian television I almost don't blame him. But you're right, I think I need to invest in a board game or a pack of cards for us to enjoy on Sunday evenings instead.

I like some of the stuff on the show, while some are stupid, but I haven't seen a show yet, where everything would be simply brilliant (okay some BBC shows come close), can't agree with putting down the hosts though, especially Jurij Zrnec... but to each its own...

...as far as the racism on the show is concerned, (and I don't want to open some deep debate here) I really think the way you look at what is racist and what is not, is a cultural thing. I mean, I've never seen anyone in the western world being insulted because of the characterization of eastern European women as being easy in practically every movie or TV show. I also think that if you try to be politically correct about everything, there isn't much left to talk about or laugh about.

@Anja - Wow, I think my racist bingo card is filled now. That was fast.

@ Anja: I do get mad at that type of portrayal, b/c it's ignorance as well and I'm not remotely Eastern European as far as I know.

There is tons of stuff to laugh and talk about, even race can be a humourous topic...it's how it's done and why that's the issue. Straight up "haha, look at the stupid/inferior/perverted/fill-in-the-blank stereotype" isn't actually great comedy, it's just prejudice*.

*don't have a tv, though, so I can't speak to the show itself. But I support looking at things critically no matter what they are.

OMG! WTF? WTF? I had no idea...

You should send this letter to the show, Camille. I can't believe they're actually getting away with showing this programming on the national television!!!

I feel embarrassed and pissed off at the same time. Argh!

Just have to add one more WTF.

Thank you for saying it so bluntly, it is stupid, and Bizovičar (the smaller of the two) is also so arrogant and impolite to the guest.
But the fact still remains that Zrnec is incredibly good actor, he really is, but this combination with Bizovičar is not working well, and the show is too long, and yes, stupid.

Thank you. Finally someone said it. I'm so surrounded by people who love this crap I thought there had to be something wrong with my taste for hating it. I never even got to the deeply insulting because I was turned off by the deeply stupid, but ye, it is offensive withouta real purpose without picking on the 'minorities' of all kinds. But I guess it's what their audience want. And the only thing I watch on SLO TV is the weather.

Hear, hear, Camille! It seems to me that when you have no sense of humour, the easiest way to elicit cheap laughs is to make fun of minorities. I once saw a Slovene play - supposedly a comedy - where all the humour was based on character sketches of gays, women (as portrayed by men in drag - bitch please!) and racial/ethnic minorities. Worse, the audience was in stitches throughout. Still, I don't understand why these shows/plays etc always have to cater to the lowest common denominator.

WOW I was not expecting that pop a cap and I just feel off of my bed laughing.

And I thought I was the only one who doesn't like it. It sucks! Even though Jurij Zrnec is a good actor, I never watch it because it's just too much.
