Zoran Predin...Live!

Yesterday was yet another concert. The Captain is really classing up my life here with all these great outings. Zoran Predin is a really fun musician (spanning pop, rock, and jazz) with this killer smile and great energy. That night he was playing with an excellent Dixieland swing-type band, with one of the best jazz guitarists I've ever seen. Predin's subject matter was sort of random (one song was about removing pigeons from Venice) and sometimes outright bizarre, but the performance was still top notch. Unfortunately, it seems The Captain and I are getting old, and when the theater director went back stage to beg the band for a second encore, we had to race out. No offense to Zoran, we just needed to get to bed!

Anyway, here are some pics.

His son, Rok, on the left hand side.

Here is a little video of him doing Sonček je with a big band.

Alcessa, are all the best musicians from your part of the country?

No, of course not... There's Iztok Mlakar from Primorska, for example.

But Vlado and Zoran are a special class... :-)

I always thought people from Prekmurje hate to be put in the same bag as people from Štajerska. My friends from Prekmurje react pretty much the same as one friend from Scotland, when I mistakenly said that she's from England. :=)
And there's always Damjan Murko to bring down the average...

All that aside, Zoran Predin is in the league of his own. As are his monologues...

Anja, I went to a secondary school across the Mura river (4 years), lived in Ljubljana for 9 years and in that time, I forgot all about being from Prekmurje and having to be proud of it... I tend to call myself a Slovenian Ossi (German expression for Eastern Germans), but do not expect people to be very specific when referring to my origin or whatever. :-)
