Thanks for this. I'm definitely reposting. It's also something I may use to share with my students.
Glad you liked it. Did you watch that Zadie Smith lecture I posted a while back? A good companion to this!
I think I missed the Zadie Smith one. Was it also a TED talk? I'll try and dig it out.
it's just here - http://wheelville.blogspot.com/2009/08/speaking-in-tongues.html
Thank you. I guess I did miss this one, as I'm sure I would've commented otherwise. I love Zadie Smith. I've only read her White Teeth, but finished it in two days. And I used it one time when I was teaching Rushdie--that part when the characters talk about the book burning and how "Alah will fuck you up, man!" And then one of them (the name escapes me) comes home to find his mom burned all of his records. :)
Thanks for this post. A friend is always telling me about TED lectures. I watched one on glamour that was fantastic. Definitely gonna share this with fam & friends!
Love her, loved Half of a yellow sun.
Very good - thank you for posting it... has given me a lot to think about in terms of my own childhood in Brasil.
